Hi, I bought one of these tv’s a few weeks ago and it is a smart set and good value.
I want to know if there is a specific type of drive needed to record programmes from the tv using the usb connection. I tried connecting the drive I am using on my satellite receiver on my other tv and got a message that said it wanted to format the drive. As I have stuff on it that I haven’t watched yet I did not allow that. It would not recognize anything already on the drive. I also was not sure if it would work even after formatting as I think that it is a linux format on it.
All the instructions say is use any usb enabled device but I’m not that sure that buying just any external portable usb drive would work.
Hope that my question is clear.

Hi Edna
The question is very clear although I’m not sure what the answer is.
I guess it’s down to whether the Digitrex will recognise a Linux formatted drive and if so how to make it do that. This information may be buried away in the manual if not then try emailing the manufacturers support website.
Sorry I can’t be more help than that.

I bought one of these recently and I’m having a few problems with sound when I watch programmes/films from my hard drive which goes through a decoder into the AV sockets. The V+ box is connected via HDMI and that is fine, but the DVD is also problematic. Basically the sound cuts out for a few seconds then comes back. It’s not the DVD/file because if I rewind the sound will cut out in a different place! Weirdly, if I play music DVDs there is no sound problem, just with films. Any ideas? Thank you! T

Hi Tina
I can’t think why this should be happening. It sounds like it may be a fault.
Is everything OK when you just play DVDs through the TV without sound going through a decoder?

Hi,
I have the 19″ version of this tv. Its great but on DVT source i cant pick up BBC 1, 2, 3, ITV or channel 4.
I have to put it on the TV setting to watch these channels and the pictuere is very bad because its not going through the freeview box. Why does this tv do this when normal freeview boxes pick up all analogue channels along with the digital ones? Any way I can get the analogue channels to play in DVT?
Thanks very much!

Hi Tamsin
I don’t have this TV but you should be able to pick up BBC1,2,3, ITV etc through the DVT. Are you getting all the other Freeview channels OK?
They haven’t moved have they only I know there were some recent channel moves on Freeview?
If not I’m afraid it’s a case of ploughing through the manual to try and find out how to do it or contacting the manufacturer. You must be able to get them though.

Hi Richard,
Thanks so much for your reply! I tried reinstalling everything a couple of times and at last it works! Not sure what was wrong with it before - may well have been the weather causing havoc with signal etc
Thank you again, I really appreciate your help and advice!

Hi Richard,
I purchased the Digitrex CFD2271 a couple of days ago and on playing a DVD using nothing but the TV & intregal DVD player, I was having a problem with the sound cutting out every few minutes for a few seconds then coming back. On replaying it always happens at the same point. I then play the DVD (Which is New & Genuine) on my old DVD player linked to a different TV and it plays fine. I have not yet linked this unit to TV stations so I am not aware if this will be fine? I took the TV back & they exchanged it. I am having the same problem with the new one. I have tried more DVD’s (All Genuine) and they all show the symptons though to varying degrees, Essex boys for example plays for about the first 30 mins before only one short silence, on rewind and play again it always clips at the same point.
Any ideas.

Gerald

Hi Gerald
We have had a few comments on the site about intermittent sound problems with the DVD on the Digitrex range. I would advise taking it back and exchanging it in case there was a faulty batch.

Hi We purchased one of these for my son’s 8th birthday and he is over the moon. However it was the last one in the store and did not come with the remote so they chucked in a free universal one(allforone I think) I cannot get the remote set up to work the TV and have tried all the codes. Also it says on the screen tv no signal but we have plugged an areal in the side. We can get a few programmes but it says we should get freeveiw programes too? also we cannot get my son’s Nintendo Wii to work on it but may need to check we have set it up correct.
Any help I would love to sort it all out for my son. The dvd’s work fine in the tv.
Many Thanks

Hi Donna
It sounds like there are a few things up - some to do with getting the remote control to work with the TV and some the initial set up of teh TV (which will be harder without the manufacturers remote)
I would first get the remote work making sure you can do the basics like switching on and off, changing channels, turning the volume up etc.
Once you have this done this then you will need to take the TV through basic set up - this is normally done by keys on the remote but you will have to find buttons on the TV to do it manually. When you have found these then try and get the Freeview and the Wii tuned in.
If it doesn’t work then all I can suggest is to try and buy a remote from the manufacturer, a stockist or even ebay.
Hope this helps

hello everyone
i have a 19″digitrex tv dvd combi and noticed the same sound problem as yours it mutes ramdomley for a few secounds when i watch dvd, although i feel i cant complain as i won it in a raffle , i still like it .
admin
January 15, 2010
Hi Diane
There seems to be a problem with the sound when playing DVDs. If you can’t take it back to where the raffle organiser got it from them try Digitrex directly. There seems to be a faulty batch as a few of our readers have had the very same problem.

Hi Richard. I bought this 22″ TV/DVD combo for my wife and the sould goes at the same point on DVD’s, TV works great. As I bought it from Curry’s and is past the 28 days, they will only send it away for repair. Would you think this will solve the problem? Many thanks Simon
admin
January 16, 2010
Hi Simon
I think this will solve the problem - but you will be without your TV while it is sent away. Try pushing them to exchange it. Show them this webpage as there is obviously a faulty batch given the number of people complaining of the same problem.
Good luck with it

Hi Richard,
I also bought a Digitrex CFD2271 black 22″ 1080p digital LCD TV and DVD combi. All OK etc and the remote tuner picked up all of the Freeview chanels of which I was able to access. The next day I could not pick any Freeview chanels whatsoever, only 1-5 and 5’s signal was terrible. Auto tune is now only picking up 1-5. What am I doing wrong??

Hi,
I refer to your respone on this (similar) question on December 29 2009. I also have the same question.
I have tried your link (and also contacted SKY) and the fact is that they do not yet have the Digitrex Make/Model code.
Instead they referred me to the Digitrex manufacturer and asked me to enquire after the code from them.
Can you please help? It appears once the correct code has been communicated it should be a straight forward process of setting up the sky remote control to use the digitrex tv
Kind regards,
Victor

Hi Victor
I’ve tried to track down Digitrex’s contact details via the web but I can’t find any details for them.
The best bet is to contact the support department of the retailer that you bought your Digitrex from and see if they can either answer the question or give you Digitex’s contact details.
Once we have these I’m happy to posts the code on the site. I’ll also post Digitrex’s contact details for those readers experiencing sound problems when playing DVDs
Sorry I can’t be more help than this but as I’m only a review site not a retailer I don’t have access to the manufacturers directly.

Hi Leo
I don’t know if you are doing anything wrong. It sounds like it didn’t store the channels it picked up.
I can only suggest starting the whole set up again and looking out for a save option when all the channels have been found.
I don’t suppose snow on your aerial could have affected it could it? I know it wiped out my Sky signal a couple of times.

I am having problem with sound cutting out for a few seconds every 5 mins or so on my digitrex 15inchtv/dvd,took back to currys sending for repair if they know about problem they should exchange or refund is that right anyone know, missed 28 day,due to xmas and snow thanks kath

January 19, 2010
Hi Kath
It’s certianly a known problem looking at how many comments we’ve had about it on here.
Whether Currys should repair or exchange your TV I’m not sure. You would have to look up your consumer rights or maybe give your local Citizens Advice a quick call.
Was there a guarantee or warranty that came with it and does that commit to replacement or return for repair.
Anyway best of luck - I hope it comes back working OK.

January 27, 2010
Hi Gareth
On a lot of DVD players and laptops if you insert the DVD it will let you switch region a certain number of times - so that you can play DVDs from the other regions.
I’m not sure if the Digitrex does this - or even if it has any multi region functionality. Support information seems to be hard to come by too.
Insert the DVD and give it a try.
If not I’m sure there will be something on the web that you could use with your laptop to play (and maybe even translate or store) the DVD in the region you need it.

hi i have thee Digitrex CFD1571 22″ dvd combi i got it for a xmas gift it work ok for the first 2 and a half week then after that the sound keeps going when i am watching sky and the picture on a programe when it goes dark on a sence you can see it as all u can do is hear the person when the sound is on do u think they will change it as we have gone over the 28 days

February 2, 2010
Hi Ryan
I’m not an expert on consumer law but I think the 28 days is your ‘right to cancel’ and get a refund.
If the item is faulty then this should still be covered under the guarantee and they should repair or replace it. I would push for a replacement given it’s a TV that you need to use everyday.
Good Luck

Hello everyone
I bought two of these TV’s for the kids at Christmas. Both are having problems with sound going of intermitently. I’ve tried different sources i.e. X Box, DVD player and the integrated DVD all problematic. DVD’s play fine on all the other TV’s in the house.
I’m going to take them back today, only problem is I put them both on the wall and had disgarded the stands!!! I hope Currys do the right thing.

hi i bought a digitrex cfd2271 22 inch for x mas and it wont reconise any usb card i put in it weather it has music or downloaded films or converted films on it i just cant seem to get it to reconise the usb storage device and i have tried a number of different usd devices is there some thing i might be doing wrong
admin
February 8, 2010
Hi Thomas
I’m not sure what may be causing this. Is may be a formating issue on the USB devices? Try a brand new USB device which has never been used on a Windows machine before.
if not then judging by the problems other readers have had it may well have a fault on it and so you may have to return it to the retailer.

I’m having the same sound problem as everyone else on the 22″. I’ve even tried a seperate DVD player using both the scart and HDMI connections and still having the same problem! Hope this helps someone to find the source of the problem! Perhaps a fault with how it reads the sound format on DVD’s (as a guess, i dont know a lot about it) I’m guessing i’ll have to send it away for repair, but does anyone have any idea on how long the set is send away for?
Thanks

Hi, I got my Digitrex 22″ two months ago and it’s been fine until tonight, when for some reason it’s saying “No Signal” and “No Services Available” and tells me to refer to Services Set Up Menu but I cannot find this - have tried every button on the remote - any ideas?? Any help greatly appreciated, thanks.

I have the 22″ version and its a great little TV. Had the same issue with the sound cutting out when playing DVDs. I phoned Currys and they instantly knew what the fault was as soon as I mentioned the TV. The problem is that the wrong DVD drive firmware was installed at the factory. The only way to fix the sound problem is to take it back to the store you bought it from for repair. The TV has to be disassembled for the firmware to be reinstalled to the correct version. Hope this helps.

I have the sound-drop problem on the 19″ model (CFD1971A). I returned it once and think I got one from a different batch as one had “Digitrex” on the front and the other didn’t. However, they both have the sound problem when playing back a DVD.
I wonder if there is a way the firmware can be updated as on some other makes of TV. I don’t want to take it back a 2nd time (past 28 days @ Currys now) as I like the record-to-USB function and I don’t think I’ll find one for the same money that has this.
Has anyone tried this yet?

I got given the DigiTrex 19″ Tv / DVd combo for xmas. I’ve had the same problems with the sound cutting out when playing DVD’s. So I returned it to the shop and they replaced it with a new one. The new one had the same problem so I took it back again. And once again they gave me a replacement. The same problem happened again.
So I took it back a third time. This time they sent it off for repair and after a 3 week wait I got it back. And yes you guessed it………….. It still suffers from the same problem.
So the DigiTrex Tv is now collecting dust in the cupboard under the stairs and I went out and bought a Phillips 19″ Tv / Dvd combo and it works perfect.
I’m also advising all of my family, friends and anyone else I come across to avoid the DigiTrex brand like the plague.

Hi i have the DigiTrex 19″ Tv / DVd but have been unable to watch DTV with it, and the analogue channels appear in very bad quality. I have tried various aeriels, including a rooftop ariel and an indoor aeriel but I am unable to view the freeview channels . I have tried autotuning a number of times and it usually says ‘no services found’, when the services are found I can see a limited number of the digital channels but they freeze and the sound is inaudible. Could a signal booster help? or a more expensive aeriel?
admin
March 8, 2010
Hi Kitty
Before you buy a booster there are a couple of things to consider.
If you read some of the other comments about the 2 Digitrex TVs we have reviewed - other people have had this problem. Try doing ‘first time’ installation again as that worked for one reader.
Are you in a good coverage area for Freeview and have you had Freeview on any other TVs before? You can check the areas where coverage is available on the Freeview website.
If you have good Freeview signal and other TVs work in your home then you can’t rule out it being a fault with the Digitrex. Try taking it back to the retailer and they can see if it works in the shop and then if it does you could get your aerial looked at then.
Hope this helps.

We bought not one but two of these tvs from Currys at Maidstone in December. We bought them to go in our motorhome just before leaving the country to be in Spain. DVD’s will not play in either tv without losing sound at some point. Rewind and you can pick up what is said in most cases, but what poor quality in that you have to keep rewinding to be able to listen to a film.
Is there any way we can get them repaired in Spain under warranty?, or do we need to claim against Currys under the sale of goods act?
admin
March 11, 2010
Hi Deborah
I don’t know if you will be able to get them repaired in Spain. I would contact Currys via email or phone in the first instance. Currys know that this is a DVD firmware problem (Sess Mat’s comments above) and they should under consumer law arrange for them to be shipped back to have the fix applied or send out replacements.
All the best
